Summary
These positions are being filled under the Pathways Internship Program which is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore federal careers while still in school.

To be eligible for these positions, an applicant must be enrolled atleast half-time in an accredited degree program in Spring 2018 AND be registered in a degree program for Fall 2018. Proof of Spring 2018 enrollment and Fall 2018 registration must be provided with your application OR to the selecting official by May 2018.

These are temporary student internship not-to-exceed opportunities to complete project work that’s temporary in nature.

Reclamation is seeking students looking for an opportunity to expand his/her experience in the biological field. You can make a difference in the West by assisting professional biologists and performing simple and repetitive tasks relating to biological and natural resources sciences.

Would you enjoy identifying and/or recording data concerning on-site investigations? Responsibilities include participating in various aspects of long-term studies of the Southwestern willow flycatcher and yellow-billed cuckoo; habitat inventory and mapping; from May through August.

LOCATION: Work is conducted in the field, located in Socorro, New Mexico, Truth or Consequence, New Mexico for the Technical Service Center; Water, Environmental and Ecosystems Division; Fisheries and Wildlife Resources Group; Ecological Support, Lakewood, Colorado Office.

Responsibilities
Duties are performed at the grade level for which selected. Participates in various aspects of long-term studies.

– Conducts presence/absence surveys and nest monitoring for the Southwestern willow flycatcher and yellow-billed cuckoo within the Rio Grande Basin of New Mexico.

– Assisting other Reclamation staff in the collection of baseline data and monitoring to ensure compliance with environmental statutes.

– Performs other project specific duties as needed, including habitat mapping.

– Are assigned to crews supervised by Reclamation personnel.

– May assume some additional responsibility as a crew leader, making minor project related decisions in the absence of the Supervisor.

Training will be provided cooperatively by Reclamation and the US Fish and Wildlife service. Individuals operating government owned vehicles will be required to take a defensive driving course.
