The purpose of this position in the Ground Water Quality Bureau is to ensure consistency and timely agency action regarding industrial waste related discharge permits issued pursuant to 20.6.2 NMAC and to administer the federal Underground Injection Control (UIC) grant. Regulated facilities include power plants, hydrocarbon landfarms, national labs, vehicle wash facilities, and manufacturing plants. The position provides leadership by identifying, prioritizing and implementing ways to improve program effectiveness in preventing and abating ground water contamination from industrial waste discharges, which may include developing policies, guidelines, templates, and regulations. The position directly supervises 3 technical and supervisory staff, manages a limited caseload of permits, and guides section staff in application review, permit drafting, inspections, compliance evaluations, and communications with permittees and the public. Administration of the federal UIC grant requires tracking, reporting, and interagency coordination.

This position is a Pay Band 80, with an annual salary of $44,782 – $77,917.
