ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST
TAOS PUEBLO CMS – Taos, NM 87571
SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE: Manages the Water Quality Program by conducting field surveys, research, analysis, and environmental impact reviews to established goals and objectives with applicable laws, regulations, ordinances and regulatory agencies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs investigation for the purpose of identifying, abating or eliminating sources of pollutants or hazards that affect with the environment or the health of the population.
Conducts fieldwork in aquatic and riparian habitats throughout Taos Pueblo and surrounding area.
Collects chemical, physical, and biologic data as required by terms of Clean Water Act Cooperative Agreement, following strict Quality Assurance procedures.
Write grant applications and contract applications for the continued funding.
Provides technical assistance to other environmental staff, other departments, committees, groups and community members on programs and projects.
Keeps leadership and other departments informed of status of activities by attending meetings and submitting reports.
Coordinates information and education programs regarding the program to include promotional materials, newsletters, and educational special events; stays abreast of new and emerging technologies.
Conducts environmental monitoring; chemical, physical, and biologic.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry or related field and three years environmental field work conducting environmental impact reviews, or a combination of education and related work experience totaling seven (7) years or more.
Master’s Degree preferred.
Valid New Mexico driver’s license, meet and maintain auto insurance requirements.
