POSITION TITLE: Wilderness Ranger, New Mexico Wild
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Seasonal (approximately May-September)
DATE: Open until 3/1/19
New Mexico Wild is seeking up to 8 Wilderness Rangers to work on 2-person field-based crews in wilderness areas on the Cibola National Forest, Santa Fe National Forest, and other Forests to be determined. Primary duties will focus on monitoring invasive species, trails, water quality, solitude, primitive and unconfined recreation, and recreation sites in accordance with Forest Service Wilderness Stewardship Performance protocols. Volunteer coordination will be required, as well. Specific work emphasis will vary by work location. Employees will receive relevant training and will be integrated into assigned Forest Service duty stations.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of wilderness management, practical knowledge of natural resources and land management and monitoring, analytical skills, experience organizing volunteers, and experience with backcountry travel.
Full-Time Seasonal position (approximately May-September). Arduous physical requirements. Evening and weekend hours as needed. Access to personal vehicle needed for some locations.
