Dept. of Experiential Education, Albuquerque Academy

6400 Wyoming Blvd NE, ABQ NM 87109

Program Overview:

The Desert Oasis Teaching Garden is a community education and experiential learning space to explore the potential for growing food in the arid Southwest. The DOT Garden works with students and teachers at Albuquerque Academy & APS, as well as offers adult classes and workshops for the larger ABQ community. Incorporating regenerative agriculture and permaculture principles, the space provides food for the campus dining halls, CSA, community events, and small scale value-added production.

Albuquerque Academy is an independent day school, serving approximately 1100 students in grades 6-12. The department of Experiential Education comprises the school’s Outdoor Education, Sustainability Education, and Community & Global Citizenship programs and is comprised of seven full time faculty members, one seasonal field faculty member, and two interns (one who works with the Outdoor Education Program one who works with the Sustainability program). The department helps support and enhance the school’s rigorous college-preparatory curriculum with a mandatory curriculum of both outdoor and service experiences.
