Purpose of Position:
This position will work in the Monitoring, Standards and Assessment Section (MASS) of the Surface Water Quality Bureau. This position will be responsible for planning and conducting water quality surveys to collect chemical, biological (fish, benthic macroinvertebrates, and periphyton), and physical habitat data for the Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 305(b) assessment of state waters, the CWA Section 303(d) list of impaired waters, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) development, water quality standards refinement, and criteria development.
This position is a Pay Band 70.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and two (2) years of work experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License
Working Conditions:
Indoor office setting with significant field work required from March – November. Travel and overnight stays required. This position requires working in or around water in all weather conditions and occasionally hiking through rough country to remote sample locations and/or lifting heavy equipment. This position may be exposed to hazardous substances requiring personal protective equipment. Field work routinely requires long hours to complete field work.
